FAQ about
Diabetes and sweeteners

Can people with diabetes use Hermesetas?

Diabetes (known colloquially as sugar diabetes) is caused when the pancreas is no longer able to produce sufficient insulin. As a result, the blood sugar level rises unchecked. Since sugar gets into the blood very quickly (ten times faster than when complex carbohydrates such as bread and pasta are digested), the blood is absolutely swamped with sugar. The body becomes used to this and craves ever more sugar. Thus sugar increases the desire for yet more sugar. It is a vicious circle that is particularly noticeable in overweight people. Since sweeteners have no effect on the body's metabolism, insulin secretion and blood sugar levels, no imbalance can occur; on the contrary, sweeteners help the overweight to slim and allow people with diabetes to enjoy sweet foods.

Why should people with diabetes use sweeteners?

Most people with diabetes find it hard to cut out sweet foods, but it is totally unnecessary: sweeteners that are used in place of sugar can give many foods and drinks the customary sweetness without increasing their energy value and without causing an imbalance in the blood sugar level. Therefore experts throughout the world consider the use of sweeteners to be sensible and extremely helpful and not only for people with diabetes, for sweeteners have no effect whatsoever on the metabolism, insulin secretion or blood sugar level.
